Twitter chat to focus on African-Americans and heart disease
February 20, 2017Monday, Feb. 20, 2017
In alliance with American Heart Month, VCU Health will host a Twitter chat with Keyur Shah, M.D., a cardiologist at VCU Health Pauley Heart Center. The chat is 3–4 p.m. on Feb. 22. Shah’s commentary will focus particularly on the issue of African-Americans with heart disease. Because, according to the American Heart Association, many African-Americans are disproportionately prone to high blood pressure and diabetes, the community also suffers disproportionately with heart disease. About 610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year. Shah’s clinical expertise includes cardiomyopathy, heart transplantation, pulmonary hypertension, amyloid heart disease and mechanical circulatory support. During the chat, he will address proactive and reactive measures individuals can take regarding heart disease. Twitter users can follow and join the conversation using the hashtag #VCUHealthChat with @VCUHealth. Questions can be submitted in advance using this Twitter information.
